This lot consists of two pieces a jacket and trousers both in leather. The jacket is a mottled grey green colour and the leather is distressed in several areas, the jacket is fully lined with a heavy blanket like material for warmth and protection. The front of the jacket has four buttons with an anchor design with aged copper patina finish; it also has a small stand collar.
The trousers are in a slightly darker tone and are stained on the seat of the trousers. There is a horizontal seam at crutch level where sections of leather have been joined together. The waistband is fitted with bracer buttons and the trousers are button fly.
One of the grittiest films made showing the plight of the U Boat crews of Germany during World War 2. The film delivered a very strong anti war message and the director very cleverly heightens suspense in the film by not showing many external shots. At the time of release this was the most expensive German film ever made, which allowed it to be so accurate and realistic. The movie received critical acclaim and is considered one of the best German movies made.
